Football Readers!

To continue our celebration of Read for a Better Life, we had a few very special readers come to K2!
Football players from The Woodlands High School spent some time with us this afternoon!
Their names are Jake (#24) and Ryan (#27)!
They did a fantastic job with our class!
The boys and girls were in awe that actual football players were in our room!  They told me they have only ever seen football players on TV!
A big THANK YOU to TWHS Football team for sharing their love of reading with our boys and girls!
You guys were awesome!

Book Buddies!

As a part of "Read For a Better Life," each class at Galatas is encouraged to pair up with another class on campus for Book Buddies!

This year, K2 has paired with Section 46, Mrs. Shirley's 4th grade group!

K2 LOVES their book buddies so far!
First, each Kindergarten student reads the books we have been working on to their new fourth grade friend!
Then the older kids read books to them!
It is a great opportunity for the older kids to mentor the little ones.  My class is thrilled when they see their buddy on campus, too!

Read For A Better Life!

Wednesday was CISD's Kickoff for our Read For a Better Life program!
Reading is the most important thing we can do for our kids!

Every year, I ask my dad to read to my class for this exciting day!

I love it when he comes to read!  He is so good with the boys and girls!  He is always very patient with all of their endless comments and questions!  :)
This time, he brought several books he is reading and has read in the past.  The class was in awe of how thick and how big his books were!
He reminded them if they listen to their teachers all throughout school, they can soon read books like he does!
He read two of my favorite books, "My Big Dog" and "Chicka-Chicka 123!"
 What a great looking group!
Thank you, dad, for being the best - ever - and taking time out of your busy, busy work week to spend time with us!

Meet Mrs. Tabor

Today, K2 had the wonderful opportunity to visit Mrs. Tabor, our school counselor!
She read them a few wonderful books and told them about her role at Galatas!
We are lucky to have her be a part of our school this year!  Thank you for hanging out with our fabulous class, Mrs. Tabor!

I LOVE Group Work!

Today in K2, we took our first shot at group work!

The boys and girls put together a retell of our story "The Birthday Cake."

Letting the kids work together to accomplish one goal teaches them (and me) a bit about their strengths, weaknesses, leadership skills and cooperation tactics.

It is so interesting to sit back and listen to them problem solve and work together to get the job done.

There may have been a few tears shed and a few feet stomped along the way, but the end result was awesome!

I am so proud of my kids!

Observing Like a Scientist

This week has been gorgeous!  It has been perfect timing for our outdoor safety unit in Science!

We took our 'cameras' and went outside to capture images of things we observed.

It turns out there are many, many things outside!  Narrowing it down to just three fantastic ideas was tricky.

The boys and girls found something they wanted to record, took a pretend picture of it, then drew and labeled it in their photo album.

 Science is a blast!

Teaching Kindergarten Science is even better!

When we finished all the work, we took some time to enjoy the beauty of the day!

Meet Gregory!

Gregory is new to K2!
He joined us from another kindergarten class in Houston and we are so thrilled to have him in our class!  He is a polite, sweet, smart and kind boy!

Welcome to K2, Gregory!
We are so glad you are in our class!

The First Few Weeks...

We have been keeping really busy in K2 lately!

We have been...

doing a lot of hands on activities,
 to know each other,

acting as cute as can be,

working with math manipulatives,

playing together

and working on our alphabet!
Things are non stop from 8am-3pm, but we love it that way!

I couldn't ask for a better group of sweet kiddos this year!
