This past week, we practiced our math skills using Sweethearts for Valentine’s Day!
Since everyone’s boxes had different colors, we first graphed how many of each color we each had.
The next day, we worked on estimates. First, we guessed how many candy hearts fit into a larger heart. Then, we filled the larger heart to see if our estimates were close.
I think they loved Valentine math! Anything to make the lessons a little different is a welcome change!

K2 has been working hard to fill our fuzzy jar! We have been looking forward to a “Game Day” for awhile!
When this day finally came, they were so excited they could hardly stand it!
We played all sorts of games! Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSI (which I am told there is a difference, but I don’t know what it is), board games, cards and puzzles!
I love that their hard work paid off!
Have I mentioned that I have THE BEST CLASS?
I can’t wait to see what ‘Fuzzy Jar Party’ they vote on next!
Claire was our Puppy of The Week this week! She has waited and waited, since the beginning of the year to have her week!
She read her whole information page own her own! I love how she pointed to each word as she read it, just like we do in class!
I wish I took a picture of the best item from Claire’s sharing bag. One of her favorite things is a puppy stuffed animal that her mom played with when she was a little girl! The puppy was very well loved and we could tell Claire took good care of it!
When asked what her favorite thing about being Puppy of The Week was, Claire said, “Everything! I’ve loved everything about it!”

On Thursday, we had a special visitor to K2!
My mom, Mrs. Cigich, came to read to our class! She was so excited to meet the best kindergarten class ever! She is a teacher at Coulson Tough, but wanted to spend some time at our school, with our fabulous kids!
She read us two books, from an author (Janet Stevens) who visited her school this week! The author even signed the book, just for our classroom!
One book she read needed two volunteers to dress up! She chose Nathan to be the dog…
…and Ashlyn to be the Princess Cat!
Ashlyn enjoyed telling Nathan what to do!
The silly cat even tied up the dog with his own leash!
They LOVED having her read!
K2 gave her two big thumbs up!

We were so proud in K2 to have THREE of our very own classmates create and present projects for the Galatas Science Fair!
Finnley created a generator!
Jason experimented with bases and acids to make changes in juices!
Ashlyn worked with her third grade brother, Conner, to create an experiment about evaporation!
Our whole class took a special trip to the fair today! Finnley, Jason and Ashlyn were so proud to show off their hard work! Way to go guys! I am very proud of you!!
On Friday, January 29, K2 joined the other Kindergarten classes, 1st and 2nd graders from Galatas on a wonderful field trip to Oak Ridge High School to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory!
We were thrilled for the opportunity to go!
When we got there, we sat next to Agustus, from the play! He told all the kids about the chocolate he eats and patiently answered their questions! (Most of them were concerned he would either get fat or get stomach aches from all the chocolate!)
It was tough to wait quietly for the play to start, but they did it and enjoyed every minute of it!
