I loved seeing all the pets and hearing why they are so special to the kids!

Then, Mr. Davis brought in my real life ‘pet!’

Math Marks the Spot!

I love to find new ways to teach the kids in K2, without using worksheets!  I bought a math game called Math Marks the Spot last fall and we are finally using it as much as we can!

DSCN0144

This week, we  worked on our addition skills!

DSCN0145

We had two teams – boys versus girls!

DSCN0147

I rolled the dice, the first person from their team to correctly join the two sets and mark the answer gets a point!

DSCN0148DSCN0149

This time, the boys won!  But last time, the girls won!

DSCN0151DSCN0153

I think the boys and girls love playing this game as much as I do!

All About Seeds and Plants

These past few weeks, we have been talking and learning all about seeds and plants.

DSCN0102

We learned about a seed’s lifecycle, how it becomes a plant.

DSCN0103

We learned about the four main parts of a plant – the roots, stem, leaves and flower.

We finished up our unit with a Plant Tasting Party!

DSCN0111

We tasted the roots of a plant (a carrot),

DSCN0113

the stem of a plant (the celery),

DSCN0115

(Colleen didn’t really like the celery)

DSCN0116

the leaves of a plant (spinach), the flower (broccoli) and the seed (sunflower seeds)!

This was such a great way to end our unit!  I know all the kids had a great time!

A Horse Visit to Galatas!

 SDC18994

As a follow up to our “Go Texas” week and our Kindergarten Rodeo, one of our second grade teachers, Mrs. Hughes, was nice enough to bring her horses to Galatas!

SDC18996

She told us all about the horses!  We learned about the different equipment needed to take care of the horse.SDC19000

We learned there are two different types of riding styles – western and English.

SDC19001 SDC19002

The horses walked, trotted and cantered for us!

SDC19003

Then, we even got to pet the horse!

SDC19006 SDC19007

This was a great conclusion to our Texas week!
